You Are Not A Victim is a blog site allowing a ticked off advocate to speak her mind about victimization; but, more importantly, this blog will provide 365 days of hope, inspiration and guidance to those who believe they are victims of society, relationships and life. For four years, the author worked at a large, very successful nonprofit in Orange County, California. In her first year of case management, she managed more than 100 homeless families living in several of the County’s seedy hotels.
During the first year, many of the woman she faced confessed they were being victimized and/or abused. During the course of working with these families, more than one-third went from homelessness to being self-sufficient. Her recidivism rate held for the three years while working with the organization. Many of the determined women became successfully employed many pursuing careers. Others completed their General Education Diplomas, were reunited with children, and united with family members who had been estranged for years.
Leaving the environment due to her own life challenges, the author pursued working with women who were going through difficult life-transition. These women were ready, willing, and able to do the inspirational work it takes to move from victimization to victory and a life more abundant.
The author is a no-nonsense advocate who is a certified coach from Coach Training Alliance of Boulder, CO, as well as teacher and author. She has also been certified in the state of California as a Domestic Violence Specialist. She is certified through the Orange County Court System as a Drug & Alcohol Awareness Expert as well as a NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) advocate.
